Just got linked this place randomly by a friend while I was trying to track down raws because minna-scan is dead.
I suck at introductions, but yeah. I go by Ryuusei, after the Super Robot Wars character. Spiral is one of the best and most underrated manga I've ever read, so I figured I'd register here and say hi.
Aside from that my interests are mostly mecha and tokusatsu. I speak reasonably good Japanese and do some translation (volunteer and commissions) as a hobby.
I also have a bad habit of registering on boards on an impulse and disappearing a few days later. I'll try not to do that this time. ^_^;

Hello Ryuusei~!
That's great, you can speak Japanese? I'm learning for years now but I'm still bad at it. -3-
I really do hope that you will not disappear after a few days becuase we like to have new friends~! (that's the only reason I could think of for now).
Nice to meet you, and my name's GemGem. ^^

Good morning to you, Ryuusei-san! And welcome to gunwithwings! I am a pathetic...er...normal person who has no real welcoming power whatsoever, but I say hello anyway! I'm Skunky! I'm a depressingly monolingual source of madness. *bows* ;D

Thanks for the welcome, all. And yes, it's not perfect and I'm not really fluent yet, but its good enough to translate and hold conversations with native speakers over the internet without embarassing myself TOO much. ;D The only advice I can give, Gem, is keep at it and immerse yourself as much as possible. It took me 8 years of watching too much anime and playing too many imported games before I eventually found myself able to actually communicate. It sounds cheesy, but playing MMOs on the Japanese server once you can communicate a little bit helps a lot too. Of course, formal classes are best if you can get them where you are. I did, back in high school, but the teacher was awful. I'm inclined to say 'Yes, this means I could theoretically contribute to Spiral scanlations', but I'm not too sure I want to volunteer myself into that, especially with the long-winded technical explanations Spiral sometimes gets into. Let's just say I know why Minna-scan left off on the original series precisely where they did.

Thank a lot for the advice Ryuusei. I am watching anime in Japanese which made me more familiar with the language. Never played games in Japanese yet, but I'll try to.
About formal classes... I'm currently taking one, but it's only once a week (at least my teacher is Japanese).
I read Spiral in my language and it sometimes even confused me due to it's long-length explanation. = ="

Welcome Ryuusei! It's good to see another person about. This forum is a mess, but hopefully you can enjoy it enough to stick around? I'm a terrible moderator. And right now I'm not supposed to be online, but I couldn't help but stop by and say welcome. WOuldn't feel right otherwise. That's cool that you know Japanese. I'm trying to learn Korean. It's fun to learn a language. Everyone here should be good about leaving you alone, but if there is anyone later on that decides to pester you about translations, let me know. There's a rule against bugging people about that shit. D: But everyone here isn't like that that I know of. Let's just say I know why Minna-scan left off on the original series precisely where they did. You have me curious.

Well, I don't mind doing a little translation for peeps here and there as long as its within reason. A picture here and there, you know? Big jobs like, well, an entire doujin or manga? That, I expect to be paid for. ;D And it's purely theory, but I'd bet the farm it has something to do with the fact that the next couple of chapters after where they left off deal heavily with the nature of cloning and involve page upon page of heavily technical exposition. Trust me, that stuff is a nightmare to translate unless you are extremely fluent, and its made ten times worse when its in the form of a manga that you can't copy text from to look up. Anyway, this place doesn't look too messy to me. Not very active, to be sure, but that's not a problem that'll ever get solved if people go leaving because of it. I believe I will continue to lurk for awhile and offer my useless two cents where it seems warranted~

Yeah, it's up to you what you're willing to do. Yeah, I can only imagine all the technical stuff being such a nightmare. I wouldn't want to touch it. I'm just glad we're able to get it now from Yen Press - but the wait on that is loooong. Well, for having so few members, it's more active than I would have expected being Spiral and all. But hopefully more people show up. Maybe then I can be assed to enforce rules about spoilers and shit like that. I usually don't. >_>;
